BJU Protests
Posted: July 5, 2008 Filed under: Video of the Week 2 CommentsWhen Christians stand against those who are in sin, do we do it in a Gospel loving way, or do we bash them because of their sin? How did the Gospel come to you, when you was deep into sin and lost? Does the cross scream at you, Your Gay! You are going to Hell! -OR- does it come in gracefully, peacefully, mercy, kindness, and tenderhearted love that Saved your Soul from the pit of hell.
Michael,
While I don’t have the time to go into this in depth I would like to point out some things that are important to this particular situation. I was living in Greenville when Soul Force came to protest at Bob Jones. Soul Force is a very antagonistic group of gay and lesbian men and women who purposefully go to Christian institutions to protest the schools stance on homosexuality. As the spokeswoman at BJU said, they do not just forbid homosexuality at the school–they forbid all sexual immorality. Second, the preachers countering the protest were not representatives of BJU. They were Southern Baptist pastors who were coming to rant and rave at these people. I know for a fact that the president of BJu found out the names of each and every one of the soul force participants and had a lunch made for them and wrote them a personal letter telling them that they wanted them to know Christ.
While it is interesting to watch these people sing Amazing Grace the reality of grace is that “it leads us to deny ungodliness and worldly lust and to live soberly, godly and righteously in this present age.” “If we say we walk in the light and walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth.” This goes for all kinds of sinful actions that we are all born loving. As Christians it is our duty to expose the darkness and yet do so remembering that we ourselves once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, hateful and hating one another. I think this video does not do complete justice to the biblical teaching on this difficult matter. Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the thoughts and making some of those things clear. I just posted it, because I see so often Believers bash gay’s when they over look so many sins that are destroying churches, namely gossip, lairs, stealers, etc. Another reason for the post was because living out the gospel calls one to react in a loving matter and not treating sinners worse then dogs.
