Irenaeus was Premil but was He a Dispy?
Posted: June 23, 2010 Filed under: Dispensationalism, Irenaeus 2 CommentsIrenaeus writes,
“But in Christ every blessing (is summed up), and therefore the latter people has snatched away the blessings of the former from the Father, just as Jacob took away the blessings of Esau.”
I think not.
Quote taken from “Against Heresies”, in The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson Peabody, MA: Hendrickson Publishers, 1999; second printing, 1:493.
Don’t you think it’s a tad bit anachronistic to take 21st century categories and apply them to the Patristics?
No, no I do not.
Dispensationalist say their pre-mil roots lay in the early church. My point in the above quote is to show although the writer was a premil. he still does not see a separation of the Church and Israel.
